I think in motion playing the game I'd be hard pressed to point out any differences between these two versions.
WATCH DOGS PC VS CONSOLE PS4
It would be nice to see those shinier surfaces on the cars on the PS4 version though but other than that I prefer the PS4's look. That's just my personal preference though. The textures and sharp shadows on the PC version just draws attention to it and screams "FAKE" to me while the softer shadows and the slightly more blended textures of the PS4 version look more natural to me. The PC version with all that extra detail, to me anyway, just loses it's cinematic qualities.
And looking at these images, I gotta say, I prefer the softer shadows that we're seeing on the PS4 version. I'd rather have the extra content as well. Yeah, the slight graphical differences I'm seeing here wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. With all settings on ultra and using the downsampling and 2x TXAA the game is easily one of the most impressive looking games I have played on PC.
WATCH DOGS PC VS CONSOLE 1080P
I'm running the game at 2048 x 1152 and downsampling on a 1080p display, while also using 2x TXAA, and the game is amazingly clean and detailed-looking at these settings. And this is especially noticeable while the game is in motion, not in screenshots. I will say, though, that the anti-aliasing in particular makes a huge difference in this game. But I'll wait for Digital Foundry to verify this and any other differences I didn't cover. The leaves on the trees also seem to be self shadowed on the PC version, while not being so on the PS4 version. The PC version can offer higher framerates. The PC version offers higher resolutions (up to 4k)Ħ. The anti-aliasing methods in the PC version are greatly superior to the post process anti aliasing in the console versions.ĥ. The shadow resolution is higher in the PC version.Ĥ. The ambient occlusion is superior in the PC version (HBAO+ vs SSAO).ģ. The textures are more detailed and higher resolution in the PC version.Ģ. That said, the PC version does have quite a few advantages:ġ. It should be a great experience on any of the next gen platforms. Well, I first want to say that the PS4 version does look very good and it runs smoothly from what I have heard.
